Story behind the “Bookie”
Of
all the items I still have from my childhood, my “blankie” is one
of the most special. It is now only a net of strings, but back then
it was a great source of comfort to me. When I found out I was expecting
my first child, I knew right away that I wanted him to have a special
blanket, too. I started looking around to see what kind of security
blankets other babies had. Some carried a huge quilt around with
them, the edges dirty from having been dragged on the floor. Some
were using a cloth diaper, which was a more portable item, but I
didn’t think it was very cute. That is when I had an idea of my
own.
I designed a small, soft blanket that would be easy to carry around.
I then decided to duplicate it, because I had seen the agony that
leaving a blankie behind could cause. This way I could keep one
in my diaper bag, one at grandma’s house, and others wherever I
might need them.
To my satisfaction, my design was a success. My son carried his
special blanket with him everywhere, it looked cute, and I never
had to experience the stress of leaving it behind. As soon as he
could talk, my son came up with his own name for his security blanket.
He called it his “Bookie.” And now, I am hoping to give the joy
and simplicity of “Bookies” to you.
The down side to most security blankets:
- Some are too big, making them hard to take along
- Having one makes it hard to keep clean (the baby notices when
it's gone to the washing machine)
- Having only one causes stress when it is lost or left behind
The Solution:
- Bookies Small enough to take along
- Perfect size for babies
- Not a choking hazard (not too big)
- Several look-alike blankets so losing one is not a big deal
- Several look-alikes make keeping them clean easier
Benefits:
- Mom and baby are happy
- Less stress; no more searching for a lost blanket or anguishing
over a forgotten blankie
